For operators and holders of market TLDs

What could names under a TLD earn?

A market TLD is a business. Every subname issued under it can be sold, rented or granted to members, customers or fans. Put in your own numbers and see the yearly and cumulative arithmetic.

Every name under a TLD is a product.

If you hold .yourname, you earn from alex.yourname and every other name issued under it, on the terms the registry allows. That makes subnames a recurring product for anyone with a community: a league and its fans, a platform and its merchants, a network and its members.

This calculator multiplies your audience by the share who take a name and the yearly price, then applies your growth rate. It uses no market data and makes no assumptions of its own. Change any input and every figure updates.

Illustrative arithmetic on your inputs, not a valuation. It ignores costs, taxes, churn inside a year and any price change.

How to read the numbers

  • Year one is members times adoption times price. It is the figure to test first: ask whether that share of your audience would really pay that price.
  • Growth applies to the number of subnames, year on year. A negative rate shows a community that shrinks or loses interest.
  • Cumulative adds every year in the period. It is a sum of revenue, not the price of the TLD.

A buyer will look at the same arithmetic with their own audience and their own price. What a TLD sells for depends on who needs it and how badly, which is why valuation is a separate exercise.

Questions about subname revenue

Who can issue subnames under an onchain TLD?

It depends on the registry's rules for that TLD. On Freename, a TLD is recorded onchain as a token in the holder's wallet, with no annual renewal, and the holder earns from names registered under it. Check the registry's current terms for how registrations under your TLD are opened, priced and shared.

Is the cumulative figure what my TLD is worth?

No. It is revenue arithmetic on your own inputs. The price of a TLD depends on the buyers who need it, the string, its history and timing. A private valuation covers those.

What price per subname should I use?

Use the price you would charge your own members, and test a few. Hush Partners publishes no pricing benchmarks, and the calculator adds none. Try a free tier at 0 to see adoption on its own.

Can subnames be issued while a TLD is being sold?

Not on a file run by Hush Partners. Nothing is issued under a TLD while it is under discussion, so the buyer receives exactly what was described. Issuance starts after transfer, with post-transfer activation.
